Alcohol services in London: CLAHRC public event
An event to improve care for people with alcohol problems in south London will be held on 2 May for members of the public with experience of alcohol problems help. The event involves a morning of presentations with researchers and clinicians based in south London who are investigating how to improve alcohol services and treatment. Children of alcohol dependent parents PHE webinar
Public Health England (PHE) are hosting a series of webinars on the topic of children of alcohol dependent parents, starting on the afternoon of the 13 May. The webinar will include a series of presentations including from areas working on the innovation fund for children of alcohol dependent parents. UK Compulsory Sobriety Network Symposium
On the 4 June in London, a free event aims to bring together policy-makers, practitioners, academics, voluntary sector representatives and technology manufacturers to explore the latest thinking and evidence around the practice of mandating offenders to a period of monitored sobriety. Alcohol Change UK national conference
Alcohol Change UK's 2019 national conference takes place on 19th June in London, exploring 'New insights into alcohol research, policy and practice'. The event will be the organisation's first following the merger of the former charities Alcohol Concern and Alcohol Research UK and will look at the evidence on alcohol use and harms across the UK and the policies that have the potential to drive change. It will discuss the latest innovations in the treatment sector, Scotland's minimum unit pricing (MUP) and consider how cultural norms can be shifted. Alcohol services: Responding to diversity DARC conference
On 14 June an event looking at the needs of diverse communities for alcohol (and other substances) service provision takes place at Middlesex University. This conference will report on findings from two recent studies investigating alcohol services for ethnic and cultural minority communities and will hear from specialist and mainstream service providers on their experiences and views of current provision needs for a range of minority groups. Alcohol and everything else: Alcohol Change UK Wales conference
Alcohol Change UK’s annual conference in Wales takes place on 18 September 2019 on 'What to do when drinking isn’t the only issue'. It will focus on how to provide the best support for people who might not fit the usual treatment criteria – including some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Experts in a range of fields will help delegates get to grips with some of the issues that can interact with drinking, including mental health, Adverse Childhood Experiences, autism, eating disorders and gambling. SHAAP/SARN 'Alcohol Occasionals'
Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems (SHAAP) and the Scottish Alcohol Research Network (SARN) run regular free lunchtime 'Alcohol Occasional' seminars. Medical Council on Alcohol (MCA) 2019 Symposium
The Medical Council on Alcohol has announced the date of its 2019 symposium, taking place on 13th of November 2019. The event will explore alcohol and health from a number of perspectives, including the relationship between addiction and alcohol, educating medical students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, student mental health, training in addiction medicine and alcohol and the liver. A 'save the date' has been announced for a thematic meeting of the Kettil Bruun Society on Public Health and the Global Governance of Alcohol will be held 30 September – 3 October 2019 in Melbourne, Australia.
