The organisation formed as a merger of Alcohol Concern and Alcohol Research UK is seeking up to six new trustees from a variety of backgrounds to join its board.
The two charities announced the merger in 2017, inevitably sparking some debate within the alcohol field. The background information for the trustee positions states:
'Currently, all the existing activity of the previously separate organisations is continuing and both the Alcohol Research UK and Alcohol Concern brands have been retained. We have confirmed our new strategic framework, have selected a new name and have approved our new brand. In mid-November our new website will launch and we will go public with the name, brand and strategy'.
The organisation aims to 'significantly reduce serious alcohol harm through a comprehensive approach: research, policy and action' and is seeking trustees that bring one or more of the following elements to the charity:
- Skills in academic research
- Experience of developing or influencing government policy
- Experience of working as a commissioner or provider of alcohol treatment
- Skills in fundraising
- Skills in communications and marketing, especially digital marketing
- Legal skills
The time commitment is 4-6 days a year for meetings plus general correspondence. The role is unremunerated but travel expenses can be claimed. See here for further information or here for the background information [pdf] and role description and person specification [pdf].
