On 12 December 2017 an event 'Tackling alcohol and addictions through applied health research' is hosted by King's College London and NIHR CLAHRC South London. The half-day conference will showcase current work iand provide a platform for PhD students to discuss the challenges of completing a PhD and present their projects. On Tuesday 23rd January 2018 the Institute of Alcohol Studies (IAS) and Centre for Mental Health is hosting an event on 'Alcohol and mental health'. The event will highlight new research findings and the issues facing alcohol and mental health services. A one day conference on substance misue and aging takes place on Wednesday 24th January in Cardiff, Wales. Hosted by Drink Wise Age Well and DACW (Developing a Caring Wales), the event is aimed at professionals, practitioners, policy makers and interested others to explore how we can better recognise and respond to the needs of the over 50s. The UKCTAS Alcohol, Problems, Policy and Practice module will return in 2018 to King's College London. Topics range from alcohol and pregnancy, alcohol marketing and brief interventions. The module will be delivered via blended learning with online materials available from January 2018, followed by a week of classroom sessions the week commencing 6th February 2017. Leading academics from King’s College London and across the 13 universities in the UKCTAS will present and discuss the latest evidence. Further details and registration here.
The 2018 Drinking Studies Network Conference, Changing Drinking Cultures takes place at the University of Leicester on 3rd & 4th February 2018. The focus of the conference is how and why do drinking cultures change - calls for abstracts are open. See here for further details.
On Thursday 7th June 2018 a one day event on 'Alcohol & Recovery' will be held as the 42nd annual New Directions in the Study of Alcohol Group (NDSAG) conference. It will be preceded by a PhD and Early Career Researcher Workshop on Wednesday 6th June 2018. This event is an interactive workshop format (designed to a) enable informed participant discussion and b) develop peer networks for early career researchers. Alcohol Reserach UK 'Research Innovation Grants'
Alcohol Research UK's Research Innovation Grants programme is now open, providing up to £75,000 for projects that address emerging issues in alcohol research, employ novel theoretical or methodological approaches, or pilot new work in treatment or service delivery.
This is the second year of a Research Priority Treatment and Recovery Today and applicants to this scheme must show clearly how their proposal addresses this priority. Submissions must reflect the Research Strategy, Guidance for Applicants, and report on Public Involvement in Alcohol Research.
