Critical measures: next steps in alcohol research and policy
Alcohol Research UK's 2016 Annual Conference takes place on Wednesday, 16 March 2016 in Birmingham, exploring new evidence on patterns of alcohol use across the UK, alcohol risks and harm, developing interventions, and reflections on the relationship between alcohol research and evidence-informed policy.
The one day conference speakers include: Professor Mark Petticrew (left) of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine who was on the revised alcohol guidelines development group, Dr. John Holmes (Sheffield University), Dr. Annie Britton (University College London), Dr. Vittal Katikireddi (University of Glasgow), Andrew Brown (Public Health England) and many more.

New Directions 2016
The 40th New Directions in the Study of Alcohol Group (NDSAG) 2016 conference takes place over Thursday 21st – Sunday 24th April 2016 in Bradford.Download the latest conference conference flyer [pdf] for the full programme (which includes day attendance options).
The conference includes a keynote from Prof. Bruce Alexander, who famously conducted the 'rat park' studies in the 1970's. Other speakers include Keith Humphreys, Nick Heather, David Best and many more.

SHAAP Occasional Seminars
Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems (SHAAP) are hosting a series of 'occasional seminars' to showcase innovative research on alcohol use and provide the chance for researchers, practitioners and policy makers and members of the public to hear and discuss alcohol related topics. Forthcoming seminars include:
- 1st March 2016 - What’s not on the bottle?: Alcohol labelling in Europe
- 19th May 2016 - Hypothesising ethnic differences in alcohol-related harms and alcoholic liver disease
- 14th June - Adolescent binge drinking in Chile: Does it matter which school they go to?
SHAAP and the BSA Alcohol Study Group are also hosting a one-day interdisciplinary symposium 'How do different disciplines talk about alcohol and how can we work better together?' on 22nd April 2016 in Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh from 10am - 4:30pm.
INEBRIA 2016
The International Network on Brief Interventions for Alcohol & Other drugs (INEBRIA) 13th congress takes place on 22-23 September 2016 (preconference September 21st) in Lausanne, Switzerland. The event will be exploring 'The challenge of complexity: updating models and practice' in brief interventions.
Speakers will include Eileen Kaner, Professor of Public Health & Primary Care Research, Newcastle University (pictured left), Steve Rollnick, Professor, co-founder of Motivational Interviewing, Cardiff, Gail D’Onofrio, Professor of Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, USA and many others.
