The recent 10% rise in cider duty will expire on the 30th June if Labour do not retain power in the May 6th General Election. Ministers were forced to remove the increase from the Finance Bill as there is not enough time to get the new law passed before Parliament dissolves on 12th April.
Cider manufacturers welcomed the 'temporary reprieve' but are aware that the Conservatives have plans to double the duty on strong beers and ciders should they win power. Further reports by the Morning Advertiser and Daily Mail.
