The long-awaited House of Commons Health Select Committee inquiry on alcohol comes to fruition today as the full full report is officially released (chapters here).
The report has already received significant media attention since it makes strong calls for minimum pricing and other tough measures to address alcohol harm. See here for our pre-release summary.
Earlier this month Kevin Barron, chair of the Health Select Committee told the Observer "Ministers need to be looking at other solutions than what they are already looking at", seemingly endorsed by the editor's comment. Nonetheless, previous calls have been unpopular amongst the public, politicians and retailers.
The Scottish National Party, currently trying to instigate minimum pricing north of the border, has welcomed the Committee's call.
