Chancellor Alistair Darling annouced yesterday in his budget that alcohol duty would rise as expected (see p76) by 2% from today. The Treasury said this will add one penny to the price of a pint of beer, 13 pence to the price of a bottle of spirits and 4 pence to the price of a bottle of wine.
Reaction from the trade here.
