A licensed Spar shop in Manchester city centre may be set to become the first to install a biometric fingerprint system to allow young people to verify their age before purchasing alcohol. In a report in the Manchester Evening News, the owner of the store is responding to pending action being taken against his licence following three failed test purchases for underage sales. The owner of the shop commented
"I have never had problems like this before and the people who sold the alcohol no longer work here. When the 14-day suspension comes, I may close the shop and give it a revamp, before re-opening with the new equipment. I haven't decided yet."
