- Drunken louts who fight and behave like yobs during nights out in Wigan will be banned from every town centre pub and club in a radical new move to combat violent crime. A new hard-hitting banning system is being drawn up by police and the town's Pubwatch scheme to clamp down on alcohol-related assaults, public order offences and disturbances in Wigan town centre.
Civil bans will be imposed on any revellers who cause trouble during nights out. The bans will last up to six months and will effectively prevent them from entering any pub or club in Wigan town centre which is a member of the Pubwatch scheme. This accounts for practically every venue in Wallgate and King Street. Offenders' photographs will be circulated to town centre bouncers who will ensure offenders are refused entry. Wigantoday.net
