An Independent Online article today says Wetherspoon's profits and sales are down, which Chairman Tim Martin attributes to banning smoking, withdrawing two-for-one offers and introducing proper food (more overheads than doing just bar food) in his pubs.
The Department of Health's consultation on banning smoking in the workplace ends tomorrow (5th Sept). The proposal is to exempt pubs that do not 'prepare and serve food' from the ban.
